16th Sheen Scout Group

We think our Scout Group is one of the best in the District - we often have vacancies so please get in contact!

About us

Our history According to Scout Headquarters Records Department, 16th  Sheen Scout Group was first registered on the 3rd March 1939. It consisted then of 2 Leaders, 8 Wolf Cubs, 6 Scouts and 3 Rover Scouts. Mr W Atkin was Scout Master for a short period followed by Mr R Lowe who also became Rover Scout Master and later Assistant District Commissioner for Leader Training. Mr L T (Gig) Williams became Scout Master and Group Scout Master after 1942.

Our links  We have a strong heritage, of connection to the local Parish, meeting at St Nicholas church hall.  As well as a full programme of scout activities, we play an active role in the church’s programme of children-focused services, and charitable fundraising – particularly the annual Christmas Fayre. Many of our young members attend St Nicholas School and/or the church choir.

Our sections

During term-time our beaver colony (age 6 to 8) meets between 5 and 6pm on Mondays; our cub pack (age 8 to 10.5) from 6.30 to 7.30 on Wednesdays; and scout troop (10.5 to 14) from 7.30 to 9.00 on Thursdays. In addition our cubs and scouts play a prominent role in an annual Gang Show, put on at a local theatre and we have a very active outdoor programme including spring camp and autumn pack holiday for the cubs, and several weekend camps and a week-long summer camp for the scouts. Our linked Explorer Unit has enabled some of our Scout “graduates” to attend international Camps, including the last three World Jamborees.

Further information

We have strong demand for places in the Group and despite running our sections at full capacity (with about 100 young people and 8 adult leaders) we sometimes need to operate a waiting list. Our policy on admission is to give priority to the younger siblings of existing members and to the children of our adult leaders and where an existing Scout member moves into our area. The remaining vacancies are allocated to children on our waiting list.
