Bushcraft Skills Day – Autumn

Date: 17th October 2020 All Day Event Location:

1st Twickenham leaders are planning an autumn Bushcraft Skills day for adults in conjunction with Chris, the instructor  (for when we can restart face to face activities).

There are up to 12 spaces available at £35 per adult leader

Meet car park 8.45

Woodland walk – types of trees and plants – which are edible and what can they be used for

Bacon sarnie and tea with briefing and safety talk

Split into groups of 6 working in pairs

  • Find filter and purify water – 09:30 – 10:15

Quick exercise with plastic bottles to be left all day.

Demonstrate Boonie bag

  • Axe and saw use – 10:15  – 11:00


  • Fire – 11:00 – 12:00

Fire Skills

How to light a fire -different techniques – flint, chemical, battery

Make a char cloth, create tinder bundle 

How to set a fire

Demonstrate a pre built clay oven (we may be able to bake some fish in a hole in the ground)


Lunch – soup/french bread  – 12:00 – 12:45


  • Knife Safety – 12:45 – 13:45

Demo and prep hazel sticks. Make tent pegs.

5 and 6 can run at same time and switch over half way through. 

  • Eating – 13:45 – 15:30


Game Prep  – (fish or pigeon or rabbit – I think fish is a winner)

Bread making u add the bread-making – I have seen this and tried before and think this is a good one to prepare to bring to camp to cook over a fire. I am thinking of where you twist it over a shaved hazel stick

  • Shelters

Different types /where to build

Knots & Pioneering eg using A frames from wooden poles and hammock knots 

Knots to square lash and A frame

Hammock knots

Cook fish at 3:30 pm.

Eat fish and Q&A

  • Leave 6 pm
