Borough Camp Cancelled
Borough Camp scheduled for 3 – 4 July and which had already been heavily adapted to meet Covid restrictions, has now been cancelled in line with new guidance from Scout HQ.
The directive, published on 27 May says that, despite the Green status expected to be announced on 21 June, Large Scout Events (gatherings of over 100 people) may not take place until at least the Autumn/Winter term 2021. Whilst there was always a possibility of this happening, the announcement was a surprise to the organisers.
The news has caused deep disappointment right across the Borough of Richmond upon Thames including the 1500 Scout and Guide Leaders and Young People who had booked. Everyone was very excited about taking part and meeting old friends in the popular and familiar annual Scout and Guide event after a long period of lockdowns and restrictions.
The Scout website explains “that whilst large scale events may offer great programme, we should recognise that bringing together large numbers of people increases the risk of infection and the spread of the virus and therefore should not form part of any planning before the autumn/winter term of 2021“.
The email from Sally, the Chief organiser to all Groups promises “to make Borough Camp 2022 even bigger and better than ever before“. Borough Camp 2022 is scheduled for 1-3 July 2022.
