Whether you want to take your Scouts away for a new outdoor adventure, or simply need to do some repairs on the Scout Hut, there’s probably a grant or foundation you can apply to for support.
Scout UK website
A great starting point is on the UK Scout’s own website: https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/running-things-locally/grants-and-funds-for-your-local-group/ The page provides information and ideas including:
Grants from UK headquarters
Activities you can get funded, such as from trusts and foundations
Applying for funding externally – including an A to Z of grant making bodies and those which will specifically assist building refurbishment projects
Working with corporate and local businesses
There is also funding available for Outdoor Adventure – making outdoor adventure affordable and accessible with grants of up to £100. And funding is also available for leaders to get permits, to enable young people to have more adventurous activities.
In addition, have a conversation with the District Team, who can also source funding and advice for groups and units in the District.
Or you can use a grant finding website such as myfundingcentral.co.uk (charges £50 subscription and you need to be a registered charity)
Local funding
London Community Foundation has a website which allows you to look for available grants which are targeted at London charities.
More local still are the following, which may include funding for Scout groups – either for general funds or specific projects – depending on their current priorities:
The Barnes Fund
Hampton Fund
Richmond Voluntary Fund
Richmond Foundation
Heathrow Community Trust
Other local funds are available but focus on those who are specifically disadvantaged or elderly.
Richmond Community Voluntary Service
Richmond CVS Supports charities with funding bids. You can find more details here : https://richmondcvs.org.uk/richmond-charities/funding-for-charities/
Don’t forget that we have a web page, Community Snippets, which provides links to the latest news from Richmond CVS including all the latest funding news around the Borough and Richmond upon Thames Voluntary Sector.
Fundraising
The Scout website sets out lots of ideas about fundraising : https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/running-things-locally/grants-and-funds-for-your-local-group/fundraising-support/
As well as those jumble sales, cake sales, quiz nights, sponsored abseils etc how about selling gifts etc on sale or return?
One option which recently pinged into our in tray was as follows: I wanted to introduce Candle Cash, a simple and risk-free fundraising opportunity designed to help Scout groups raise funds for trips, activities, and projects while also developing key skills like teamwork and financial literacy. I’d love to explore how this could support groups within your district.
Looking forward to your response! In the meantime, you can find more details on our website: www.candlecash.co.uk
