A Jubilee, a Baton and retired entertainment folk….
The Royal Variety Charity assists those who’ve worked professionally in the entertainment industry and are in need of help. The charity strives to support all those, both young and old, who’ve worked on the stage, in the wings, in front of a camera, or behind it, as well as all those who have spent their lives working in the numerous support industries dedicated to entertainment. It owns and manages its home for elderly entertainers, Brinsworth House in Twickenham.
Prior to a Commonwealth Games, the host country holds a baton relay – and it’s first stop was Brinsworth House, prior to it’s journey culminating in the opening ceremony of the Commonweath Games which are to be held in Birmingham in July.
Mix in that the date co-incided with the start of the 4 day Platinum Jubilee celebrations, then there was a real celebration to be held at Brinsworth House on Thursday 2nd June. Scouts from the District were invited to be a part of this event by the Royal Variety Charity. Scouts from 3rd Whitton Scouts and Edmund Hillary Explorers took up the opportunity to be present and help celebrate the Jubilee and the start of the Commonwealth Games baton relay. Caron, the Group Scout Leader, said that it was “a very special memorable occasion that marks history“. Well done to all the Scouts and Explorers who took part!
