Coronation – Opportunities for Explorers and Leaders

Scouts, along with GirlGuiding UK and the Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps, have been asked to support with the plans for the Coronation in London on Saturday 6 May. However, Gilwell are waiting for further information about what that support will look like.

To help ensure The Scouts can mobilise support quickly when asked, they are looking for 10 volunteers and up to 15 reserves to support the Coronation event.

Each volunteer must be aged 18-25 on 1 May 2023 (i.e. born between 31 April 1998 – 1 May 2005).

The currents plans require volunteers to be at Gilwell Park between the afternoon of Thursday 4 May through until Sunday 7 May, although these dates are a best guess and may change when The Scouts have the detailed plan from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS).

UK Scouts will provide each volunteer with:
· the necessary training and safety equipment for their role
· transport to and from their shift location from Gilwell Park
· space for their tent
· meals (currently planned from dinner on Thursday 4 May until lunch on Sunday 7 May)

Each volunteer will need to:
· Get themselves to and from Gilwell Park (or Chingford Station). GLSW will fund this transport.
· Bring personal camping equipment (eg tent, sleeping bag).
· Full, smart Scout uniform (we’ll share more details as part of the joining instructions).
· Be prepared to undertake whatever duties are required of us, which may include supporting high profile dignitaries and the general public, working with other agencies etc

UK Scouts are also looking for older volunteers to be part of the team supporting our young adults, in roles including shift leaders, providing welfare support and general logistics support (primarily at Gilwell Park).

If you are an Explorer and would like to take part please speak firstly with your Explorer Unit Leader who should contact: Chris Dean (tinkerscorner@aol.com) or Neil McLauchlan (emailbossman@btinternet.com). Adult leaders can contact Chris or Neil as appropriate.
