Boro’ Camp to go ahead

Date: 9th Mar 2021 Author: Phil Hunt

Plans are underway for Borough Camp 2021 – 3rd & 4th July

Although Borough Camp 2021 is still in early planning stages, a few things are emerging.

Instead of the traditional weekend camp attended by nearly a thousand Scouts, Guides, Explorer Scouts, Ranger Guides, Cubs, Brownies and Beaver Scouts, this year’s event will not include any overnight stays (except for volunteer adult Leaders who are staffing events and activities).

On Saturday 3rd July the older Sections (Explorers, Guides and Scouts) are invited to take part in the sports competitions, ‘Scoutcraft’ and ‘ Just for Fun’ activities as well as the onsite Walton Firs activities. All activities will be outdoors.

On Sunday 4th July the younger Sections (Cubs, Brownies, Beavers and Rainbow Guides) will be able to enjoy similar age appropriate activities.

At this time (March), it’s difficult to predict what Covid rules will be in place in early July regarding ‘bubbles’, age ranges and group sizes, so the organisers are taking a cautious approach. At this moment, the ‘Amber’ rating rules will apply – groups of 15 young people + up to 2 Leaders – but this could change.

For now, the organisers are asking Scout and Guide Sections to contact them with an ‘expression of interest’ in order to facilitate further planning. It is expected that this event will be very popular so be sure to put your name down now and avoid disappointment. Formal booking will take place in May.
