Bushy tails for 4 to 5 years old
The new Scouting section – Squirrels – was launched as a UK-wide initiative on the 9 September 2021.
There are plenty of reasons to get stuck in, as Squirrels gives young people the chance to:
- Make friends
- Have fun outdoors
- Learn new things
- Earn badges through fun activities
Squirrel Scouts share many of the features of older Scouting sections such as badges for activities and skills learned, themed challenge awards that lead to a top award for the section, a uniform made up of a bright red sweatshirt, and make a promise relevant to them.
This new programme is currently open in 200 areas across the UK where it has been piloted for 2 years. New Squirrels Dreys will be launching throughout autumn 2021. Squirrels might not be opening in Richmond upon Thames just yet but a number of groups are already starting to think about how they can extend their provision to include this new age group. You can still register your interest in volunteering with Squirrels now via our volunteer page here and once we are ready to establish Dreys within our existing Scout Groups we can be in contact.
You can find out more information about Squirrels on the Scout Association website here.
