District Leaders are presented with a Silver Wolf
Two members of the District Senior Leadership Team were presented with a Silver Wolf at the 2024 District Conference last Sunday
Silver Wolf presentations, by their very nature are rare. But a double presentation is remarkable.
Tim Grebot and Ian Hardy were proud recipients of the Scout Association’s highest award for exceptional service. It is typically awarded after receiving a Silver Acorn and a prolonged period of exceptional service. Owen Purcell, County Commissioner GLSW presented the awards on behalf of the Chief Scout.
Tim Grebot
Tim’s devotion and dedication to the Scouts is outstanding and his loyalty to the District is second to none. Believe it or not Tim received his 40 Years’ Long Service Award two years ago – he doesn’t look old enough does he?
After distinguished service with Scout and Explorer sections, Tim was appointed Deputy District Commissioner in 2018 and is a friendly and very familiar face right across the District. You’ll find him at every major District event – usually with his sleeves rolled up and with a hammer in one hand and a burger spatula in the other… Tim has been the cornerstone of this District and his contribution to our success has been exceptional.
Ian Hardy
All adults in the District – from new starters to old hands will know Ian and will have had several interactions with him in his all-important role as ‘Head of People‘. Ian is at the heart of pretty much all administration that goes on in this District – everything from making sure that the personnel records of all of our volunteers are up to date, to reminding folks when checks are due, from overseeing software licences renewals to unblocking DBS applications.
Ian sorts out the District Diary for us to avoid clashes and is absolutely key at functions and events when we need to know who is where and what’s happening next. Ian also provides all the data for the Awards Panel as well as so much more..
Some may refer to his tasks as ‘back office’, but it’s actually the engine room and powerhouse.
A Silver Wolf medal, is worn with its head facing the wearer’s right-hand breast pocket (away from the heart). According to our Founder, the Wolf points away from the heart because if it’s pointed the other way, it would eat your heart out!
