In the wet

Richmond upon Thames District were represented at the  Greater London South West (GLSW) County Bronze and Silver DofE Expeditions in Ashdown Forest, run over the weekend of 24th/25th July.  A record-breaking total of 93 Explorer Scouts participated from across the County – the numbers swollen due to covid delay from last year. As regards Richmond District participation, on the bronze expeditions, there were 3 Explorers from each of Zheng He and Cook Explorer Scout Units (ESU) and 2 from Edmund Hillary and on silver expedition, there was a team of 6 from Cook.  All successfully completed their expeditions.

It was reported that the monsoon on Sunday proved “character-building” for many of the participants, with some maps being transformed into lumps of papier-mache!  Despite (or maybe because of?) the rain, many silver participants at the weekend expressed a desire to go-for-gold!

We hope that the GLSW Gold expeditions in August will be as successful with the majority of the Explorers planning to participate being from Richmond District’s Cook ESU.
