Jack Petchey Nominations – and hurry!
Martyn Day, the District Administrator for the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards writes to Group Leadership teams as follows:
Because of the COVID-19 situation the Jack Petchey Foundation has recently revised its Achiever Award procedure. Instead of asking for 9 applications for the JPAA £250 awards by the end of February and a further 9 by the end of May they have rolled both invitations together, which means that they are now asking for 18 applications by the end of May…and so far we have received just 5!
To complete this unique opportunity to win £250 for your own group we are inviting ALL Scout Groups and Explorer Units to select members of their own unit who have excelled themselves as scouts or explorers and deserve consideration for this award. This doesn’t mean that they have climbed Everest or crossed the Atlantic single handed. It means showing enthusiasm and determination within Scouting, helping others, setting a good example for others to follow…..organising an outdoor, socially distanced evening for your own Beavers, Cubs or Scouts perhaps, pitching your tents and checking that the moths haven’t eaten them before we are finally allowed to go camping again, running errands for the older people locked indoors – anything that demonstrates that essential element of the Scout Promise – to do one’s best!
Jack Petchey, the founder and patron of the JPAA once said “If you think that you can – you can!” and he was right. No matter how high your ambition or lofty your dreams, if you truly believe that you can succeed in them and are prepared to put in the effort and dedication to bring them about then you will prevail. This is the spirit of the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme.
I have attached the application form along with some information on how the JPAA Grant may be spent. All applications must be sent to me AT THE VERY LATEST by the end of May 2021…so it’s time to start thinking about those young people in your group now.
Please note that it is the young people nominated that decide how their grant might be spent. Their leaders might suggest but it is the winners that settle.
Martyn
