World Scout Jamboree – Richmond contingent update

On 21st June the Richmond World Jamboree scout team helped to run the annual NPL Water Rockets event.

At the event, which has been running for over 20 years, teams compete in a Water Rockets challenge and individuals are also able to make and launch their own rockets.

The Jamboree team collected and prepared hundreds of fizzy drink bottles needed to make the rockets, were trained by the NPL team on making and launching them, publicised the event and supported on the night including helping to make rockets.

The event was a great success, breaking the record for evening team numbers (37) and raised over £3,400 in fundraising towards the Richmond scouts attending the World Jamboree.

The Water Rocket Challenge

The challenge is to land an air pressurised rocket, using water as a propellant, exactly 70 m from launch point, three times, with extra points for flight duration.

The scouts were also very proud to be awarded the annual NPL Henry Kindness Award for their enthusiastic help.
