Shooting for Gold – May 2023

Richmond upon Thames’ Scouts shooting activities in May 2023, included the InterCounty Competition at Aldersley and the Royal Kingston Open Airgun Spring Competition at 1st Hook.

Two scouts aged U13, Matilda and Digby from 3HH, were selected to compete as part of the GLSW team for the InterCounty comp. There are three trophies to be won, the overall Rifle, overall Pistol and of course, the overall aggregate. They set off from 1^st New Malden on Sunday 7 May at 0530 and arrived back in the evening. After a very long day and for the first time since 2012, GLSW came home with the Pistol trophy. A top effort.

Then during the weekend of 20-21 May, Richmond upon Thames was represented at the Royal Kingston Competition by scouts from 1st Hampton Hill, 1st Twickenham, 3rd Hampton Hill, Peake ESU and Petersham & Ham Scout Group.

Not only did the scouts shoot well there were some lessons learned, one in particular for a young George. He wasn’t sure whether he was good enough to enter the pistol discipline, but he had a go; and by being brave enough to put his doubts behind him, he came away with a gold medal!

I’ve listed all those achieving Gold Silver or Bronze positions. A huge well done to all our scouts willing to have a go.
