Silver Wolf for David
The Chief Scout has recognised David Clay with the highest award for Good Service – the Silver Wolf
The award consists of a Silver Wolf suspended from a dark green and yellow neck ribbon and is being presented to David this week at his Group’s Christmas Sing-Song by Owen Purcell, the County Lead Volunteer, Greater London South West.
Phil Hunt writes:
“David has devoted all of his 50 years’ service to the Group and is involved in all its aspects, from overseeing the administration of disclosures and training of all the volunteers to personally supporting Scout and Cub Camps and Beaver Sleepovers. A humble man by nature, he has always preferred his name badge to read “Assistant Scout Leader”. His new title of Group Lead Volunteer suits him well”.
Part of David’s citation reads:
“David is the Group Lead Volunteer for 2nd Whitton (formally joint Group Scout Leader) and has been a the driving force behind this highly successful Scout Group for many years. 2nd Whitton, which regularly appeared in the national Top 20 ‘Large Groups’ listings currently still boasts a youth membership which exceeds 300 youth members in two Beaver colonies, two Cub Packs and two Scout Troops (not including the embedded Explorer Unit). The Group will soon be opening a Squirrel Drey. So numbers will increase further.
David works tirelessly to maintain the Group’s heritage (the Group has always enjoyed tradition) but he embraces the future with his whole being too; he is steering the Group towards transformation to the new methods of volunteering and team structures. David is very active and exudes gentle enthusiasm and joyfulness.”
We’re sure you will join us in congratulating David for this remarkable achievement.
