Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – District arrangements

Date: 12th Sep 2022 Author: Phil Hunt

District Conference

The District Conference is still taking place as planned on 18th September.

In the presence of the official representative of the Crown at our event, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the Borough, Gillian Norton, there will be a one minute silence to reflect and show our respects to our Patron. The Mayor’s office has also confirmed a place for the event. Delegates will be invited to contribute to the Richmond upon Thames Scouts Book of Condolence.

The barbecue afterwards will continue its tradition of being a dignified gathering of friends and colleagues over a quality meal and glass of something nice.

District Book of Condolence

In line with the County directive, all well-wishers are invited to contribute to the District’s Book of Condolence. The Book will be available at all District meetings for signing in person and will be made available at various locations around the District in the coming weeks. If you or your Young People would like to contribute but are unable to reach the Book, you can send typed words, scans or photos to DC@richmondscouts.org.uk and we’ll make sure they are included.

Commemorative Badge

A special Memorial Badge to be worn on uniform was launched on the 13th September and will be issued free of charge to all uniformed Members of the District to commemorate the life of our Queen. The badge is to be worn for three months. This badge can be worn alongside the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee badge which may be worn until the end of September 2022, and the Memorial Badge will be distributed the same way when it becomes available.

District Representation

Look out for Seb Goes (Asst. Scout Leader – 3rd Whitton) and Niamh Bourke (Section Asst. Cubs – 13th Twickenham and Cook Explorers) who have been selected by Gilwell for State Duties. They will join other Scouts 18-25 from around the country and the Commonwealth to assist with the solemn ceremonies surrounding Her Majesty’s lying-in-state and funeral in London.
